Crook accidentally delivers £600k of cocaine right into police's hands

This was the moment police uncovered a huge stash of imported cocaine - potentially worth up to £600,000 - hidden in a package of children's toys.

Officers were already searching a house in Huyton, after securing a warrant, when an unexpected visitor arrived and handed the occupant a delivery.

It appeared to be a package of toys, with a picture of a toddler's fire engine on the surrounding paper, said to be for a child aged two and above.

But when suspicious detectives investigated further, they stumbled upon a massive 8 kg. haul of the Class A drug.

It is estimated that could be worth as much as £640,000 depending on its purity.

Police arrested a man, 42, from Huyton, on suspicion of importing drugs into the UK. 

Also recovered by officers scouring the home on Lincombe Road was cannabis and cash.

The discovery on Wednesday was made by Knowsley-based police who executed the warrant at 9am.

The same suspect has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing of cannabis and possessing of criminal property.The man was questioned in custody and has now been released under investigation.

Inspector Jon Coote, of Merseyside Police, said: “Drug supply causes significant harm in our communities, both to those who use controlled drugs, but also through the serious and violent crime that dealers can bring to the areas they operate in.“We have brought offenders to justice and taken drugs off the streets thanks to information from the public living in such areas, so keep working with us to pass on information if you suspect there is drug-related activity where you are.
